I was chatting with a buddy earlier today, and we were discussing how easy it can be to lose our way on the journey to fitness. A missed workout in the morning leads to a whole day with no physical activity, which ends with a crappy mean, which makes working out the next day even less likely, which causes frustration and binge-eating, etc. It’s amazing (and a little scary) how quickly a couple of bad choices can become a downward spiral. Fortunately, it can be just as easy to stop that cycle.
Action 348 – Turn It Around. It happens with a single good decision. Choose a banana over a donut. Choose to walk for fifteen minutes at lunch. Choose to get out of bed and go to the gym instead of sleeping in. Honestly, just ONE positive action stops the descent. You are no longer in free fall and are already making things better.
We both also figured out that the hardest part about stopping a slide is deciding. Once the mind has settled on a plan, the body will follow.
So here’s to turning things around as soon as I recognize what is happening. No beating myself up and no excuses, just a simple decision to stop doing the wrong things for my health and my fitness.
Yep, this action really can be that simple.
