At my heaviest weight, in January 2010, I weighed 220 pounds. By March 2011, I was down to 182. Sure, I only weighed that for a hot second after a particularly grueling and sweaty run and strength training session, but still... I was 182. And it showed. I looked and felt lean and healthy.

But last week, I weighed in at 198 pounds. Thus, Action 031 - Face Facts. I can't truly improve anything unless I am willing to face the truth about the choices I was making and the impact they were having on my health and fitness.
- I cannot out train a bad diet. I am not Michael Phelps.
- Major events once or twice a month are no substitute for consistent workouts.
- Avoiding the scale doesn't stop weight gain.
- My clothes are not fitting as loosely as they were.
This isn't rocket science. It's very simple, really. To lose weight, I need to burn more calories than I take in. I can do that by making better nutritional choices and fully committing to my exercise regimen. That's it. It's not complicated.
The good news is, the results are almost immediate. Since I made major adjustments to my eating and my working out just one week ago, I have already lost two pounds. As of this morning, I weighed in at 196. I share this candid information because I hope anyone reading along takes a bit of comfort in it. I'm Johnny Half-Marathoner and Mr. Healthy Lifestyle, and here I am having to rattle my own cage and get back to the basics.
I am, again, prepared to make better choices and see the results I desire. And that's a fact.
