Action 187 - Heavy On The Left Foot. (Aye, Aye, Sir!)

Yesterday was my first run with my new (tentative) playlist for the Pasadena Marathon, and I noticed something about a series of tunes. Mixed randomly through my music are Marine Corps cadence tracks. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the call and response from a leader and a platoon as they run. The chanting helps large units of Marines stay in step and run together at the same pace. It also helps Marines remember to breathe as they yell back to the leader.

Action 187 - Heavy On The Left Foot (Aye, Aye, Sir!)

I'm definitely keeping the tracks in the playlist rotation. It keeps me motivated, and I feel less like I'm running by myself. Not only that, I noticed that the cadences tend to be somewhere around a 10:15 mile pace. That is just slower than my regular running tunes, so the Marine Corps cadences actually allow me to slow down just a bit, catch my breath, check my form, and get going again.

Here's a sample:

Heavy on the left foot
Motivated Left foot

There aint no discharge on the ground.
There aint no use in lookin back,

There aint no use in feelin blue,
A jodies got your lady too.
