I would say this is ultimately true. However, if you don't find someone to make their happiness your priority and they your happiness as their priority, then your happiness will be greatly diminished.
John IS my happiness. When he is happy, I am happy. When I am happy, he is happy. Two are better than one, at least in my case. Do yourself a favor by making someone else your priority.
